How it Works

We send two pieces twin size mattresses for lab testing at the world's leading ergonomics institute: The USA Consumer Report, the German Stiftung Warentest, the Dutch Consommentebond, the French Que Choisir and the Chinese Equivalent of these organisations all test products at the Forschungsgruppe für Industrieanthropologie der Universität Kiel. We order products online from stock - no special samples are made for testing purposes. We have the products examined according to the following criteria based on the norm EN 1957:

ERGONOMICS : The body types "petite", "large/tall" and "average" are tested in the side- and back sleeper positions. The results of the ergonomic tests are evaluated based on points:

9.0-10.0 lying points = 5 stars
8.9 - 6.5 lying points = 4 stars
6.4 - 5.0 lying points = 3 stars
4.9 - 1.1 lying points = 2 stars
1.0 and fewer lying points = 1 star

The ergonomic result is 50% an arithmetic mean of the grades of all body types in all sleeping positions, once in new condition and once after continuous use.

DURABILITY : The long-term load (60,000 compressions with 300 pounds / 140 kg according to EN 1957) is essential for durability, once in a dry laboratory and once under the influence of heat and moisture.

STABILIZATION: Comfort features also account for 50% of the ergonomics result. They are calculated in quarters each from: number of post-oscillations (best is 3-5 post-oscillations), point elasticity, position change resistance, residual height. The exact test descriptions are stored with the individual criteria.

If multiple tests have been performed on the same product, only the most recent results will be published.

A mix of the weights suggested by the above mentioned test institutes are entered as the starting point for the criteria. You can then change the weights using the sliders. From then on, it will always be sorted according to the criteria you want. This sorting and weighting is reflected in the grades of the products - from 5 stars (VERY GOOD) to 1 star (POOR). You can read the detailed results in the test report that is attached to each mattress rating. The results are not absolutes, but the result of your personal evaluation.
